I love Jesus and Jesus asks us to rest. Therefore, after spending most of my life as viewing rest as "lazy" or "irresponsible" I began seeking out healthy ways of resting. And then one time last year this idea came to my head: I love crafts. I need rest.
And so began craft sabbaths: a day that I devote to resting and crafting.
Some people have asked if I do this on a particular day or if I focus on particular crafts. Since I don't believe that Jesus mandated a particular day of resting, rather just a day to rest, I usually find a day in my week that is free. If I don't have a free day I try to make one.
To be honest, I am human and a grad student. Some weeks become very busy and stressful, and unfortunately I lose sight my reason for craft sabbath. If you happen to notice a few weeks without me mentioning a craft sabbath, feel free to remind me.
I also love joining up with others in resting through crafts. Throughout the year I have spent the day with many of my friends doing everything from felt work to crocheting, baking, drawing, cross-stitching, and planting flowerbeds.
Please follow me this year as I continue craft sabbathing. Maybe you too need a day of rest?
